Final Results: Nove Mesto World Cup XC 2019

by | May 26, 2019

Nove Mesto provided some of the most exciting racing in a long time with both Elite races coming down to the last lap. In the Elite Women, it looked like Anne Tauber would take the win until a mechanical caused her to drop a number of places leaving the top spot open to the current series leader and World Champion Kate Courtney. Second place would go to Rebecca McConnell who looked strong all race and would finish just 36 seconds behind Courtney. Haley Smith and Sina Frei would take third and fourth. First-year Elite rider Malene Degn would complete the podium in fifth.

In the Elite Men’s race, we would finally see Mathieu Van Der Poel show his dominance after he was able to put nearly 20 seconds in Nino Schurter on the second half of the last lap. Behind Schurter would be Mathias Flueckiger who would build on his first place from Albstadt and would cross the line 1:53 back from Van Der Poel. In fourth place would be Henrique Avancini and fifth would go to Czech rider Ondrej Cink who would hang on to third for most of the race but just couldn’t quite keep the pace in the latter half of the final lap.
